Lost wax casting
An ancient and intricate method used to create detailed gold jewellery. It involves crafting a design in wax, which is then replaced by molten gold to form the final piece.
Lost wax casting is accomplished through melting gold casting grains at high temperatures and allowing the molten gold to flow into negative created from the “lost wax” My designs are either hand fabricated or CAD design.
Sand casting is a method using a special casting sand, used to create the mould. A model of the ring is tailed made from wax and pressed into the sand to create an impression. The sand is packed tightly around the mould, to hold the shape of the mould. Molten gold is carefully poured into the sprue, filling the mould cavity.
Final polishing work involves at least 12 stages — a skillful back and forth between wheels of varying shape and grit to ensure a timeworn softness.
The result is pure pleasure. Jewellery that feels as good as it looks.
The opening of the flask
The moment the flask is opened, marks a culmination of meticulous work and anticipation. As the heat dissipates, revealing the hardened investment that encases the delicate piece, there’s a palpable sense of excitement in the air. Carefully, the investment is chipped away, to unveil the intricate details of the cast.
The finishing techniques come next, transforming the rough cast into a polished piece of jewellery. It is in this moment that the object comes to life, showcasing the potential for a future heirloom, crafted to be cherished for generations to come.
